Mini Mite Program Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN REGISTERING CHILDREN IN THE MINI MITE DIVISION

The Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) presently recommends that 4 to 6 years olds, through the Active Start module, benefit most by having an “emphasis on child activity and developing basic motor skills. The focus is on the individual and therefore, there is little focus on team tactics...It has been suggested that there be no soccer games at all during this stage”.   While we have initiated this process with the Mini-mites division, our goal is to implement the changes into the mites and tykes program within the next couple of years.

The aim of the Ontario Soccer Association and the East Gwillimbury Soccer Club (EGSC) is to create the foundation for a good soccer experience, and to encourage long term player development. The EGSC fully supports the efforts and recommendations of the OSA, as do the majority of soccer clubs in Ontario. As such, the Mini-mites program is clearly laid out in the EGSC Parent/Coaches Manual. This division will have no structured competitive games.  The manual states “the division will provide players with the environment for learning proper fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, twisting, kicking, and throwing”.  This will be incorporated through a variety of games and activities for a majority of the session.  The last 15 minutes of each session will involve an unstructured game format with no referees.  Coaches will be on the field with the players to assist in their development.

If you have any questions regarding the Mini-mites division, please feel free to contact the club.
